Objective
This course will provide the knowledge and skills for learners to solve problems and make decisions. This includes various brainstorming techniques for developing ideas as a group or as an individual; general decision-making techniques and processes for any group or business and methods for critically analysing data problem solving and decision-making are critical skills for working professionals, yet most people learn these skills through trial and error and receive minimal formal training. Over the past two decades, cognitive science has made great strides to better understand how people solve problems and make decisions. Modern tactics and skills can build on previous experience and improve performance of individuals and teams.
As the world becomes more complex and our work becomes more interdependent, it is more challenging than ever before to solve problems and make decisions. The rational use of tools and algorithms is no longer enough. It involves an active interest in what drives stakeholders in the decision-making unit and around it.
